Custom Ice Hockey Uniforms: What to Specify Before You Order in Bulk
Ice hockey jerseys take more physical abuse than almost any other uniform we manufacture: cold rinks, constant contact, and repeated stick contact against the fabric. Getting the fabric weight and stitching right matters more here than the print itself.
Fabric built for contact and cold
Hockey jerseys typically use a heavier interlock polyester than soccer or basketball jerseys, in the 160 to 200 GSM range, since the fabric needs to resist snagging on equipment and stick blades. A lighter weight looks fine on day one and starts pilling or tearing at the seams within a season.
- GSM: 160 to 200 for the jersey body
- Construction: heavyweight interlock knit
- Seams: flat-lock or bar-tacked at the shoulders and underarms, where equipment straps put the most stress
- Fit: looser cut than other team sports to fit over shoulder and elbow pads
Printing that survives a full season
Sublimation is standard for team crests, numbers, and full jersey patterns, since dye bonded into the fiber will not flake off from contact with boards, sticks, or other players’ equipment. If your design includes a large crest, confirm the fabric can take sublimation before finalizing the artwork; some heavier weaves take dye less evenly than lighter interlock.
What to specify before you order
- Jersey fit: senior, junior, or youth grading
- Sleeve length and cuff style, since some leagues require specific cuff designs for safety
- Neckline: v-neck or crew, depending on league rules
- Fight strap or tie-down loop at the jersey hem, if your league requires one
League equipment rules vary by region, so confirm any mandatory safety features with your league before finalizing the tech pack. We build to whatever spec you confirm, but we do not track individual league rulebooks.
Ordering process and lead time
Minimum order is 20 sets per design. Standard production time is 15 to 25 working days after sample approval and deposit. We recommend ordering a sample in your team’s most common size before committing to the full run, since hockey jerseys fit differently over pads than a standard athletic cut.

Common questions about custom ice hockey uniforms
What fabric weight works best for ice hockey jerseys?
160 to 200 GSM heavyweight interlock polyester. Lighter fabric wears out faster under contact and equipment friction.
Can you match a specific league’s jersey rules?
Yes, as long as you confirm the requirements with us at the quote stage. We build to your specification but do not track individual league rulebooks ourselves.
What is the minimum order for hockey jerseys?
20 sets per design.
Do you make practice jerseys as well as game jerseys?
Yes, practice jerseys are usually ordered in a lighter weight fabric and simpler print than game-day jerseys, which keeps the cost down for higher-volume training wear.
