Complete Guide to Custom Cricket Uniforms: Fabric, Design, and Bulk Ordering

Last updated:

Cricket uniforms have changed considerably in the last twenty years. What was once a question of white flannel trousers and a collared shirt is now a detailed manufacturing decision involving performance fabrics, full sublimation printing, and team branding that needs to hold up across a full season of outdoor play.

Fabric options for whites and colored kits

Traditional cricket whites are still made in cotton or polyester-cotton blends, typically 65% polyester and 35% cotton at around 160 to 180 GSM. This gives a clean appearance and handles warm weather reasonably well.

Colored kits for T20 and limited-overs cricket have different requirements. Most clubs now use 100% micropolyester at 140 to 160 GSM. Lighter weight improves moisture management, and the all-polyester construction makes sublimation printing possible, which is why T20 kits can carry full-color team branding.

Fabric specifications to confirm with your manufacturer:

  • GSM: 140 to 160 for performance jerseys, 160 to 180 for traditional whites
  • Construction: interlock knit for jerseys, twill or gabardine weave for trousers
  • Finish: anti-odor, moisture-wicking treatment on performance fabrics
  • Stretch: 4-way spandex blend for fielding-intensive formats

The components of a complete cricket kit

A full cricket uniform order typically includes more than just the jersey. Club orders often need:

  • Jersey (short-sleeve and long-sleeve versions for different conditions)
  • Trousers or shorts (white for traditional formats, colored for T20)
  • Cap or helmet cover in team colors
  • Training bib or training top in a second colorway
  • Thermal base layer for touring in cold climates
  • Kit bag with team branding

Not every club orders all of these at once. But knowing what the full kit includes helps you plan what to produce now and what to add in a second run.

How size grading works for club orders

Cricket clubs typically carry a wide size range, often XS to 3XL for adult kits and separate children sizing for junior teams. Size grading is where production problems most often start.

Ask your manufacturer whether they use a standard size chart or grade from your tech pack measurements. If they use their own standard chart, request it before finalizing designs. A jersey that fits well at medium but runs small at XL will cause complaints.

For club orders, ordering a size set (one unit in each size) as part of your sampling process is worth the cost. It is modest relative to the risk of a bulk order with fit problems across the size run.

The ordering process, step by step

  • Confirm design files are in vector format. Raster files at 72 DPI will not print cleanly on jersey panels.
  • Confirm kit components and quantities per size.
  • Review fabric and print method with the manufacturer.
  • Request a pre-production sample in your most common size.
  • Review and approve the sample in writing.
  • Confirm lead time from deposit receipt, not from inquiry date.
  • Confirm shipping method and expected transit time.

Lead times and what pushes them out

Standard bulk production for a cricket kit order is 15 to 20 working days from sample approval and deposit receipt. Common delays:

  • Late design approvals: every revision cycle delays the sample, which delays bulk
  • Fabric or trim items not in stock: your manufacturer has to source them before cutting starts
  • Peak season backlogs: pre-season for Northern Hemisphere clubs typically falls October to January, which is busy for most Sialkot manufacturers

If your club has a tournament or season start date, work backwards from that date to establish when you need goods in hand, then when you need to place your order. Most clubs order too late and pay for air freight that could have been sea freight.

Common mistakes when ordering club cricket kits:

  • Not confirming whether trousers are included in the per-kit price or quoted separately
  • Submitting low-resolution logos that cannot be used for sublimation printing
  • Not specifying whether sizing is adult or junior for mixed club orders
